Change the lives of families in Southwest Baltimore!

Carolyn in our computer lab

Carolyn got help with basic needs and worked with a case manager to find a family-sustaining job she loves.

Carolyn was at the lowest point in her life when she found Paul’s Place. She was out of work. Her house had been foreclosed. And, she had nowhere to go with her three kids.

“Everybody was talking about Paul’s Place,” says Carolyn. “When I came through the door, they welcomed me with open arms. It was like a blessing for me. Paul’s Place changed my life.”

Carolyn found a wealth of resources at Paul’s Place. She got help right away with some of her basic needs – a new photo ID, food, and clothing for her children – and she began volunteering at Paul’s Place in the Ambassador program.

“At that time, I was depressed and didn’t know what to do. I saw everybody that was volunteering, and I just jumped in and fit in. It made me feel so much better. It really saved my life, literally saved my life.”

As an Ambassador, Carolyn was matched with a case manager, Ellen, for help finding a job. Ellen helped Carolyn update her resume and practice answers to common interview questions. She helped Carolyn find the right clothes for interviews in our Market Place and provided bus tokens so she could get to the interviews.

Carolyn worked in a couple of temporary jobs to earn a paycheck while she searched for the perfect job. Her hard work paid off: Carolyn found a job she loves! Her job is to connect people experiencing homelessness to housing, a mission that is close to her heart.

Paul’s Place helped me find a good paying job, where I can maintain my stability in housing. And they also helped me with clothing for the workplace, transportation, any resources I needed just to get this job. So, like I say, I love Paul’s Place!”

There are hundreds of people like Carolyn who turn to Paul’s Place every month for help overcoming the daily adversities of poverty, homelessness, unemployment, inadequate education, addiction, crime, and violence in their homes and in their neighborhood.
