Help Paul’s Place Summer Camp Kids Shine This Summer!

March 31st, 2018

Derrick and our 39 other campers practice their math and reading skills through fun educational games and enrichment activities to prevent summer learning loss.

The warm days of summer are fast approaching. Are you excited? Isaiah, a fifth grader at George Washington Elementary School in Pigtown, can hardly wait. But it’s not because school’s going to be out – he loves to learn, and he’s quick to tell you that math is his favorite subject.

It’s because summer means it’s time for camp at Paul’s Place.

Paul’s Place provides a fun and enriching summer camp for first through fifth graders in our community. For eight weeks each summer, kids like Isaiah enjoy experiences that they could never have in Pigtown, including adventure courses, boating, and field trips to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. They bond with caring counselors, and head to school in the fall far more prepared than they would have been without the educational activities they enjoyed at Paul’s Place.

Your gift will mean a summer of fun and learning for a kid this year.

Kids from low-income families lose about two months of grade equivalency in math and reading over the summer months. Added up over the years, that lost summer learning potential can mean the difference between graduating from high school…or dropping  out.

But you can bridge that summer learning gap for young people by supporting Paul’s Place. From our internship program for high school students, to our middle school enrichment program, to our camp for elementary school kids, Paul’s Place is here for Southwest Baltimore’s young people all summer long.

Campers enjoy enriching activities that reinforce academic skills., including trips to the Maryland Zoo and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum.

You can hear the excitement in Isaiah’s voice when he talks about camp. He can’t wait for visits to the swimming pool, fun educational games, hands-on environmental science experiences…maybe even another trip to Sky Zone trampoline park – one of his favorite outings last year.

You can take it from Isaiah: “Paul’s Place is a caring place, and they teach children things they maybe never knew before. You should come to summer camp at Paul’s Place – because it’s super fun, man!”

There are many more kids like Isaiah who need us, and we’re aiming to expand the number of young people we serve this summer. But we can only do it with your help. Your gift is not just an investment in a child’s summer. It’s an investment in his or her future.
